About

Ligia Hatfield (Galvao), Co-Director/Co-Owner

My name is Ligia Hatfield and I am originally from Brazil. I have had the good fortune to be able to visit many different parts of the world. Traveling allowed me to view life in other cultures and learn different ideas and languages. I speak English, Spanish and Portuguese and have a passion for life-long learning. I’ve incorporated the culture and languages I have learned into our daily actives to help create an enriching experience for the children. While I have lived in England and South Africa, this gorgeous village by the sea, Carlsbad, is where I planted my roots.

I hold a degree in Early Childhood Education from colleges in Sao Paulo & San Diego. I also studied English in London and Spanish at a Madrid School in Sao Paulo. I’ve worked many years with children with special needs at AACD-Sao Paulo & YMCA-San Diego, Montessori Schools in Sao Paulo, the Lighthouse Presbyterian Church in Encinitas, as well as having my own daycare for the past ten years.

I started Kids Care Spot, along with my daughter, Rejane Minnie, in 2003. We are a licensed daycare facility and meet all of the ongoing requirements of the Community Care Licensing of the State of California. Our facility is visited by MiraCosta Early Childhood Education instructors and students as a model observation facility.  We are very proud of this distinction.

Our Philosophy

When children are exposed to early education programs they acquire a good foundation for their future learning. And, when surrounded by a beautiful environment, such as our facility, they learn to treat one another, the earth and its surroundings with kindness and respect.

Our Staff

For the past 5 years we’ve had the same loving & nurturing team of assistants who are highly experienced and certified in CPR/First Aid, Health & Safety, and Nutrition as well as being Fingerprinted & Background checked. We are also certified in “Math & Science for Young Children”. They ensure that your child is involved in the educational activities throughout the day.

Curriculum

Our “unique curriculum” was inspired by Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf and Creative, and is age-appropriate for Infants, Toddlers, Preschoolers & School age children.

We believe children learn best when exposed to different curriculum and methods. One single curriculum may not address all different areas of learning.

We focus on fine motor skills, language and literacy, cognitive development, physical activity, creativity and social-emotional skills, focusing on feelings, basic needs, good manners promoting kindness, patience and respect as well as appreciation for life’s diversities.

House and Location

It is extremely charming, very spacious & cozy, with wonderful indoor & outdoor areas, in a “quite and serene” location. It is nestled back at the end of a long driveway, which means NO cars or people passing by.

Off Carlsbad Village Drive, conveniently located just 5 blocks west of I-5, & 1 exit from Hwy-78 which makes it very easy access from Encinitas, Oceanside and Vista. Walking Distance from Magnolia Elementary, Valley Middle & Carlsbad High.

Materials and Equipment

natural-toys-in-aIndoor furniture & equipment: “Lakeshore, Kaplan & Geppetto” are age-appropriate and at the child’s reach & eye’s level. We use appropriate materials showing differences in genders, races, cultures, disabilities, etc.

Outdoor equipment: We use the safe “old fashioned” swing set, play houses, slides, seesaw, tire climbing toys, wheels toys, blocks, easels, basketballs, stilts, sand box, water tank, etc.

Our children are exposed to “natural materials” such as leaves, shells, barks, twigs, seeds, rocks, dry foods, sticks, flowers, dirt, moss, pebbles, pieces of wood, etc.

Each child has his own cot and 2 cubbies for linens and spare clothes. We also provide individual “survival kits”, in case of an emergency.

Languages

English, Portuguese & Spanish.

The time the children spend with us can be used in other productive ways to enhance the learning of a second language which is beneficial for the language centers in the brain.

We have children from different backgrounds such as Native-American, African-American, Chinese, Brazilian, Mexican, German, Philippine and Kenyan.
